the south project 2004

The South Project was a five-year program initiated by Kevin Murray who was then the Director of Craft Victoria.

It was designed to develop networks for cultural exchange between southern hemisphere countries including southern Africa, Australia, the Pacific and Latin America.

South 1: The Gathering was the initial gathering of representatives from participating countries to develop the parameters for future south-south exchange. It was staged July 1-4 2004 in Melbourne, Australia.

I participated in the South Project by video recording all presentations by speakers at the three day symposium, and documenting various performances, gatherings and exhibitions organised to complement the symposium.

I then edited the materials to produce a DVD series as an archival record of the inaugural manifestation of this inspiring project.
